It all started 12 years ago when Rick Altis and Larry Taylor got the idea to record a bluegrass project singing all of the harmony parts and playing as many of the instruments as possible. With a little help the recording became recognized as a project worth further investigation. Calls started coming in for bookings so they joined with their old friend Jim Almarode and put together a touring band. The next ten years have found them in many states from the Great Lakes to the Deep South, playing bluegrass and gaining the most loyal fans you can imagine. Some of the fans travel many miles to see a High Ground show. They've opened for and played beside the best in the business. One of their big moments was when award winning banjo player Sammy Shelor filled in on the 5 string at a festival in Stuart VA. Sammy's been a great friend to the band and recorded on High Ground's "Bristol Station" project.
With four recording projects behind them and the addition of Ben Swarey on guitar and Jeff Ritchie on banjo, the end is nowhere in sight!
